MARÍA SALGADO

Dr. Salgado has more than 15 years of research experience in virology and immunology, with a special focus on the pathogenesis of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1), the etiological agent of AIDS. She has been focusing on the study of HIV-1 pathogenesis and functional HIV cure models, starting with patients that spontaneously control viral replication and then opening her knowledge to the different HIV cure strategies developed worldwide. She obtained her molecular biology and genetics PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in March 2010, after which she spent 27 months at the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA); her collaboration with former mentors there continues today in co-authored publications.

She has large experience in scientific publication in high impact journals as Annals of Internal Medicine, Blood, Nature Communications, Lancet HIV, Journal of Virology or Retrovirology, with more than 600 citations. She has contributed to science dissemination giving invited talks in the scientific area but also for the general public within TEDx TALKs program. Also, she has been interviewed by different social media as main Spanish TV and newspapers to describe her work.
